Training Pool Directions

Directions from M62 : Leave the M62 at Junction 31. From the roundabout follow the signs for Normanton Town Centre (NOT the main A655 road for Wakefield). After approx 1 mile you will come to a traffic light junction next to the Black Swan pub, continue straight ahead at these traffic lights. After another 1/2 mile you will come to a second traffic light junction, turn right at this junction onto Wakefield Road heading towards the Town Centre. The pool is the building on the right after approx 50m.

Directions from Wakefield : Leave the City Centre on the A638 towards Doncaster - continue out of the City passing Rugby League ground and passing under a large railway bridge. Shortly after this bridge turn left at a set of major traffic lights, onto the A655 signposted Normanton. Follow this road for xxx miles to a roundabout where you should turn left, following the signs for 'Town Centre' rather than the main A655. Turn immediately right at the next roundabout and follow this road into Normanton. At the first set of traffic lights, fork left (signposted Altofts) and the pool is 50m along on the right hand side.

Directions from M62 J31 (Normanton) : Leave the M62 at Junction 31. Follow signs for the A655 Castleford and follow this road to the first roundabout. At this roundabout turn right and follow the road to a set of traffic lights. There is a signpost at these lights pointing in the direction of the pool - turn left along Aketon Road. The pool is on the left hand side just after the Railway Bridge.

Directions from M62 J32 (Glasshoughton) : Leave the M62 at Junction 32. Follow signs for the A639 out past xScape. Continue to follow the A639 passing the Asda supermarket on your right. After passing through a level crossing at Cutsyke, you will come to a set of traffic lights with the pool signposted to the right - turn right at these lights and the pool is on the left hand side just after the Railway Bridge.

Directions from Pontefract and M62 : Leave the M62 at Junction 32 and follow signs for the A639, passing the Racecourse. As you reach a dual carriageway with the Queens Hotel on the right hand side, keep in the right hand lane and at the major traffic lights at a junction turn right onto the A645 signposted Wakefield. Follow this road for xxx miles, into Featherstone. Shortly after passing the new Sports Centre you will see a sign for the Swimming Pool and an entrance on the left hand side - follow this entrance to the pool car park.

Directions from Wakefield :

Directions from the M62 : Leave the M62 at Junction 32 and follow signs for the A639, passing the Racecourse. Shortly after passing Tanshelf railway station, turn left following signs for the Town Centre (opposite the Queens Hotel). After approx half a mile, turn right by the Pontefract Squash Club, with Morrisons car park on your left and Tesco's car park on your right. The pool is on the left opposite the main entrance to Tesco. Note that you will need to obtain a (free) parking ticket from the pool if parking here - if the pool car park is full you should park in the area of Morrisons car park nearest the pool.

Directions from Wakefield :

Directions from Wakefield City Centre : The entrance to the Thornes Park campus is off the A642 (Huddersfield Road). From the centre of Wakefield follow signs for the A638 Dewsbury or A642 Huddersfield - when you reach a small one-way system about half a mile out the centre, keep left on the A642 towards Horbury and Huddersfield. After about 200m, turn left into the campus. Follow the road past the Athletics stadium up towards the school buildings. Around 200m after the Athletics stadium, enter the first college car park on your right. The pool is now on your left.

Directions from M1 J39 : The simplest route is to follow the A636 towads the City Centre (watch out for a number of three speed cameras after the Jaguar garage). Follow the dual carriageway, passing Thornes Park on your left. At the second roundbout turn left (past a Peugeuot Garage and Cineworld). At the T junction/traffic lights turn left (signposted A638 Dewsbury and A642 Huddersfield) and follow the one way road past the retail park on your left and PC World on your right. At the end, turn left onto the A638 and then follow the route as above to the A642 and the campus.
