In 2005, the club embarked on a training camp / swim
holiday to Calella, a seaside resort around 40km along
the Spanish coast north east of Barcelona. This was not
a traditional training camp in that parents attended
too, lending more of a holiday atmosphere but with
serious training sessions in the outdoor 50m competition
pool. These visits are organised at the Spanish end as a
package to collect groups from the airport at Girona,
and provide accommodation on a full board basis as well
as training facilities in the pool. There was also
plenty of 'down time' for beach visits, go karting,
visits to a local water park, and
to catch the train along the coast into the fabulous
city of Barcelona. These
visits are very popular with lots of other clubs, most
of whom are actually on the more intensive training
camps with just coaching staff in attendance. Bill
Stevens led this first expedition, with John Ormerod in
attendance for coaching duties and there is a press
report below. The visit took place during the May Bank
Holiday school holiday week - and was repeated in 2006
and 2007 under the fantastic leadership of Lynne Nunns,
with a wide range of age groups in the pool. Including
the parents themselves for the traditional parents
versus swimmers relay event........
We have not run the visit since 2007, but who knows,
one day.....! |
